About us
Coastal Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Specialists was started for two different reasons; professional and personal.
Professionally, Hinesville, Georgia is a rapidly growing city which is in need of Orthopedic care. Our practice is a general orthopedic practice designed to help serve the multiple needs of this growing community.
Dr. Tankersley has an extensive background in Orthopedics, practicing in both civilian and military facilities. He received a fellowship in Adult Reconstruction from The Johns Hopkins University. His experience ranges from a Sports Medicine practice while Chief of Orthopedics at Keesler AFB, followed by a busy hip and knee private practice in Concord NC. He also served as Assistant Chief of Surgery at Carolinas Medical Center, Northeast.

Our goal is to provide the highest quality of care for the patients of our community in terms of evaluation, diagnostic studies, non-surgical and surgical treatment options, and finally therapeutic rehabilitation plans, locally. We are committed to allowing our patients to stay in our community for this type of care and not have to travel out of town for their orthopedic services.
Personally, Coastal Orthopedics gave Dr. Tankersley, a native of Statesboro, Georgia an opportunity to return to Georgia. Both he and his wife, from Savannah, have strong family ties in the area. The Tankersley's have been away from south Georgia for around twenty years and are happy to have the opportunity to practice Orthopedics "at home."
